Sheltered housing provides people over the age of 55 with good quality accommodation within a small community of similarly aged individuals in order to help them maintain an independent lifestyle. Additional services such as secure door entry systems, the services of a scheme manager and also alarm services are provided, although the provision of services will vary depending upon the landlord and the particular scheme. These services are charged for in addition to the weekly rent and vary based on the scheme and the landlord.
Activities for residents are available within schemes and these will also vary depending on the particular scheme. Such activities often include bingo, coffee mornings, fish and chip suppers, tinsel and turkey weekends and various trips. Scheme Managers play an important role in encouraging these activities and you should note that these activities are not part of the weekly rent charged.
